Record Keeping & Schedule F Tax Forms - Presented by Judie Wilson and Gloria Todachinnie

February 24, 2019 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Leupp Chapter House

Record keeping is an important activity for ag enterprises of any type or size. Business records may be required for tax purposes, to qualify for government assistance programs, loans or leases. A good set of records can help you make better business decisions by providing real data about past performance that helps you to more accurately predict future trends. Participants will learn how to use Schedule F (Form 1040) to report farm income and expenses.

Season Extension Strategies

March 8, 2019 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Beaver Farm (MAP)

Learn to build your own hoop houses during a workshop at Beaver Farm led by Tyrone Thompson, John Willie, and Harvey Riggs. The workshop includes learning to construct a cement foundation and bending metal pipes. Lunch will be provided by Tolani Lake Enterprises. This workshop is partially funded by Navajo Agriculture Products Industry, Administration for Native Americans, and USDA.

GHP/GAP Food Safety and Farm Safety - Presented by Stewart Jacobson

May 24, 2019 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Leupp Chapter House

Food safety training for farmers to prepare for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) Certification. The training will include a food safety overview, updates on the Food Safety Modernization Act, detailed visual examples of the dos and don’ts of on-farm food safety practices, a review of the audit checklist for GAP/GHP Certification, and instructions for preparing a standard operating procedures manual.

Conservation Planning Day 1 - Presented by the Dine College Land Grant Office

June 3, 2019 - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Leupp Chapter House

A conservation plan is the record of decisions and supporting information for treatment of a unit of land meeting planning criteria for one or more identified natural resource concerns as a result of the planning process. The plan describes the schedule of implementation for practices and activities needed to solve identified natural resource concerns and takes advantage of opportunities. Conservation plans are developed and implemented to protect, conserve, and/or enhance natural resources within the client’s social and economic interests and abilities. Natural resources are defined by NRCS to include soil, water, air, plants, animals, energy and human considerations (SWAPAE +H). Participants must attend both days as learning objectives build each day. Land Grant Office provides technical assistance on day two for participants.
